I would say this segment is overall easier than the last one, but I die twice here. The way things have been going, there's a very real chance this will be the most I die on any single stage in this entire run (although we'll see how 5-1 goes...)

0:45 We continue 2-1. After the elevate, I use the Thief Ring and a Soul Remains to get past a few miners and the Black Phantom. Not much issue here.

1:33 Okay. Now things are getting awfully specific. Remember how in my previous video I said there are more dogs down in 2-1? Well they are a serious problem, with some really glitchy and inconsistent pathfinding. It's entirely possible to Soul Remains your way through them, but I never got any better than maybe one in every five attempts.

Instead, we're going to go through the lava here. Normally the path in this level is to go down through the dogs, through some miners, and pull a lever that floods this area and removes the lava. But it's possible to go right over it, while activating a quick Hyper Mode for the boss.

To do this, we stack 3 pieces (minus the gloves) of the Ancient King's set, equip the Ring of Flame Resistance and Cling Ring (this trick can be performed even easier with Body Form, but I don't like burning finite items, even when I have nearly 100 sitting at Stockpile Thomas), and casting Water Veil. You can't stack Second Chance with other buffs, and Water Veil is more effective for this trick, I've tested.

We equip a catalyst and cast Water Veil, but then we have to remove it because the added weight puts us just barely into fat-rolling. Next we take a Heater Shield (I happen to be using a Dark Heater Shield +5, but actually any Heater Shield will do), and two-hand it. Then you press L1 (even though it's in your right hand) to defend. The Heater Shield has 10% more Fire Defense than the Buckler, but we can only wield it if we use both hands. While holding our shield up, we run across the lava, and if we get the angle just right, we roll at the last possible second to make the other side.

On my first attempt, I mess up exiting the first set of stairs and trigger my landing animation. This stops me just long enough to kill me. On my second attempt, I try to start my roll too late, and I'm already dead.

4:10 I have my third and successful attempt. This really isn't very bad, when you keep in mind that I typically only had about a 1/5 chance of getting through the dogs downstairs, and that's a much longer path, and then you have to make the boss run separately, and find a way to trigger Hyper Mode. Also keep in mind if you're willing to burn some Stone of Ephemeral Eyes to do this in Body Form, you have a lot more leeway than I do here.

This trick can also be done as a female character, but to my knowledge it requires Human Form to make up for the lack of the Ancient King's armor. I haven't tested this, but I know YouTube user Emarrel has pulled it off.

5:17 This is the closest this guy has ever come to actually killing me. Usually his fireball is lower and hits the fence. I don't know what made it go high here. If you were to take a death here, it would definitely be a crushing blow.

5:28 This has to be the single worst trap in Demon's Souls.

5:33 This guy is the only real extra problem element in World 2 on PBWT, but this route seems to avoid him pretty consistently. There's not a lot of room here to use a Soul Remains. I'm not sure if he has any dirty tricks that can kill you, but again... this would be a rough place to die.

6:30 The Armored Spider fight begins. There are a few details to cover here. First, in order to keep him this docile, you must keep the Thief's Ring on. Second, he's at such a vast distance that the Sticky Short Bow + Light Arrows does (nearly) as much damage as any other setup. I prefer to use that just in case I forget to restock, I won't be out of Holy Arrows later. However if you didn't make the Sticky Short Bow because you didn't want to farm Spiderstone, the Lava Bow + Holy Arrows slightly outperforms that setup anyway.

Otherwise the general technique here is to wait until Armored Spider is passive, then shoot two arrows at him. If you see him rise up, you want to immediately roll to the right twice, then back to the left twice. This should allow you to dodge his web shot consistently. If he begins shooting fireballs instead, you should fire a total of four arrows, then stop and watch carefully for him to rise up. That part can be treacherous, though.

At 8:03 I accidentally fire 5 arrows at instead of 4, and because of this, I lose control over him a little bit. This winds up going okay because his AI doesn't choose to do a web shot that I can't time properly, but I could have gotten killed here. Don't do that. Stick to firing 2 or 4 arrows, always.

With Armored Spider dead, I put my fire protection gear away, and it's two more suicides to PBWT.
