DFFOO [JP][Character Enhancement MQ part 3/3] Pre-BT Strago, LD only Setzer and echo only Edgar
Pretty much a BT-less main team with 1 echo character. My Setzer is only up to LD with no FE, so this team is kind of whacky. Strago FR somehow pulled through and defeated an echo era boss, albeit with a friend. So I am pretty pleased with the result. Pretty good exercise for Strago before he gets BT at the end of the week. Increasingly getting enticed, I really like Strago.
You know what it feels to use Strago's Lv.2 Death to mechanically break an enemy again? It is almost like reliving the horrors of Ciaran LC with those bears.

The frogs for Quina FR/BT makes a return. They are actually quite demanding as bosses and they have quite a fair bit of HP. It should pose less of a challenge if you have a full team with FR/BT, but there only a handful of FF6 characters that can deal with the mechanics.
As a reminder, the frogs have these features:
1. Periodically, from FG or HP thresholds, gain buffs that pretty much perfect resist all BRV dmg
2. These buffs can be removed by dispel or breaks
3. One of the buffs also give them a on-turn 5m HP regen
4. Boss FT reduces 100% BRV dmg and bans player buffs
5. Boss FT can only be removed by breaking them with magic BRV dmg FA
Without removing the buffs and no intervention, it is very easy to waste turns doing no DPS while trying to break them.
The FA is really debilitating, particularly the no buffing part. If you bring out friend units before removing boss FT, friend would come out without a single buff.
Within the confines of FF6 characters, you can deal with them in some ways:
1. Setzer freeze and rainbow dmg can somewhat pin the frogs at 0 BRV after they recover from break. Rainbow BRV (or HP dmg) can help you with DPS efficiency
2. Strago's Lv.2 Death (when they have even number BRV), FA, LD can force break the enemy. His FA is also capable of removing boss FT.
3. Celes can help you manage their dmg or off-turn counter strats
4. Cyan does not care about BRV dmg reduction
Obviously if you count friend units, there are much more options. For example, you can use Vincent BT or Aerith to stop the boss from having those buffs. Sephiroth BT pretty much trivialise the break requirements. Naturally Quina would work because that was the intended feature character for this stage.

Since I don't have many BT/echo characters from FF6, I used Strago with the intent of using force breaks to manage the enemy turns and removing boss FT. His FR coming with 50% cap up was a god sent as well.
Setzer, without FE/FR/BT, can still provide a degree of dmg insurance for the team. Strago having full AOE also benefits more from his buffs. The freeze makes it so that I do not need a healer for this stage, as long as the timing is right and controlled by Strago's breaks and Setzer's S2.
Edgar is mostly there for the extra echoes. The added benefit is, he can use moves with all 3 attack types, so he fits with Strago's FR. Using more of his turns also makes the others' buff depletion slower while building up FG (I don't think there is a FG builder from FF6?). It is quite likely that the boss would go into FT first.
Cid Raines friend makes it easier to control Setzer and Strago's orders. Since he follow-up after his own hard hitting echo attacks, he is really good for dealing a big burst of DPS with his limited presence. I tried this with Sephiroth friend and even with his increased cap up, it was nowhere as efficient. Obviously I could have just ... Astos this, but I reckon I would just try a more strategic option this time.
I did have a hiccup on the CA holders though. My original intend was to use Sazh CA to extend Strago's Soul of Thalmasa and other buffs ...... then I put the CA on Strago instead of someone else. So that did not work as intended.
Had Setzer did not go before Edgar after Strago FR, it probably could have been a clean finish. It was a bit tight with no BTs and only 1 character with echo, so I can't really complain about the imperfections when it could still be finished in 1 FT with a little bit of friend support and post-FT finishing touches.
