DFFOO [JP] AOE spamming bosses play the game "If You Miss, You Get Beaten Up"
Featuring a team consisting of 3 different archtypes of dodge and counter characters: Galuf/Kelger/Cater.
A lot of trigger attacks, so the video is a bit long. Timestamps:
00:00 QS to boss FR
05:24 BT starts
06:50 Kelger FR
The hierarchy goes in this order, from top to bottom:
Galuf: Cover-based
Kelger: Buff draws enemy fire
Cater: Debuff lock
This is already known, but putting it here just as a reminder. When the boss use a ST attack, you can see a snippet of how Galuf cover for Kelger while Cater is completely ignore by the boss.
Normally, these 3 types of counter characters don't work well together. They fight for the boss's attention. If they don't dodge, they don't get to counter. Similar things happen to counter tanks that actually require getting hit instead of dodging the hits.
When you find a boss that often or even always AOE, then none of these limitations matter. Everyone do their own thing and counter like maniacs. All hell breaks loose.
The wonderful thing is that some of the threshold triggers can be dodged, thus contributing further to the HP bonus and number of counters. This boss when enraged would attempt to dispel your buffs. Normally you either have to delay it or at its 20% HP threshold, use golden frame debuff to dissipate its intent to kill. With Cater BT and all three characters evading said trigger event, it becomes an opportunity rather than a nuisance. It even save you from needing certain characters to deal with it.
Coincidentally, all three of them have more than 1 layer of off-turn attacks/counters (Cater: EX mine/counter; Kelger: preemptive/counter; Galuf melee counter/all-time counter). At the same time, both Kelger and Cater have a double trigger of a specific move. Suddenly each enemy turn has a large pile of trigger attacks and HP bonus going to the funds, which is quite satisfying to watch. Whenever the boss miss, they get a big slap to the face.
Funny enough, while this boss uses a lot of ST attacks, it also has an AOE follow-up. At first, I wasn't sure if Kelger would counter, seeing that Galuf was still covering when the AOE appeared. Apparently it still counts as a dodge for Kelger even though he wasn't on the screen to physically dodge the attack. You don't see this kind of behaviour a lot, so it is a pretty good experiment to gain some experience on special occasions like this.
One flaw of using both Kelger and Cater is that neither of their FR is fully compatible with the other. Kelger requires melee off-turn attacks, and Cater needs ice BRV dmg, which Kelger's preemptive strike doesn't have. Cater may have a slightly higher cap increase, Kelger's give 10% to each of his trigger attacks. So I picked Kelger's (well also for the self AD increase) and put Cater on the left for her to attack last with the highest HP bonus of each turn.
I thought about putting Eight there, but I just BT+ Cater, so she was there instead.
