DFFOO [JP][Act 4 Chapter 5 Part 1] Selh'teus overhealing an A6-intoxicated Vivi
Well new content dropped and due to FE 50 and the system updates, there are more ways you can go about dealing with stages now.
This boss is not very tanky or troublesome. Since I got a free Selh'teus BT, I gave him BT+0 and had a go with him. I tried a few comps with him already (e.g. Lightning double FE 50 run, Aerith + Ursula etc), so I picked the one with Vivi at the end. Perhaps I will do something like a retention focused run with this stage or some others with older characters. My mind has been quite probed by that update.
Boss: Exdeath and King Behemoth
Force:
- accelerated charge
50%: ATK down
70%: DEF down
FA: Roaring Howl
- buff itself with + iBRV/mBRV
- teleport its next turn to the front
FT: 20T
Always use Meteor+: basically you die and there is no dodging it
Weakness: (cancel FT)
- FA that deals BRV dmg and heals
(not counting passives/buffs/spheres)
Approach:
There is not much to say about this.
The major gimmick is that the King Behemoth immediately gets a turn after it uses its FA. What it does from that point onward is just spamming an instant kill attack: Meteor+. If you like a weird way of doing it, I guess you can Eiko revive Selh'teus and have him revive everyone lol. I wouldn't stop you if you want to do it that way.
You can put a paralysis debuff onto the behemoth and stop him from killing you or just out charge their FG. With FE 50 it would be really easy. Selh'teus is pretty much the only one with FE50 currently with semi- charging capabilities, but you can still mix it others and enjoy that additional FG charge speed from him or other FE 50 characters.
Vivi + Selh'teus? Leviathan?
I am playing Vivi + Selh'teus in a specific way. Vivi wth A6 crystal passives dedicates that while he takes 40% mHP poison at turn start, whenever his HP drops to equal or below 70% mHP, he would get an extra 20% HP dmg cap up. Though the passive counts towards HP dmg taken, so you need to heal back up to cover for the completion requirement.
This will also proc the iBRV (which Selh'teus also give party boosts to) based regen from Leviathan's blessing. Though that maybe an overkill since we also have Ursula and Selh'teus's own party BRV regen. On top of the Cait Sith effect from Selh'teus, there was simply no way to run out of BRV.
Also, Leviathan's SPD down aura slows down Exdeath and Behemoth, so that Ursula would warp less.
Regarding Selh'teus:
Oddly enough, I think it has been a long time a new character does not have some really unique gimmick to them. He is quite support oriented with one or two major DPS moves you can use in FT, taking elements from various characters.
Healing and Battery:
What he does excel is overhealing. Besides his S2 and LD, everything he does heal .... MASSIVELY. As you can see even with Vivi at red health, he can bring him back with one move to overheal status. His FA has the highest overheal capacity among his skills at 30% mHP. Additionally he turns excess heals into battery, like what Ashe BT does.
Putting him with someone uses (over)heals and HP as mechanics would be quite effective. You can use him to power up Aerith's white materia and boost the Holy cannon with HP dmg up. Perhaps a future Bsach/Porom BT would have more extensive use of a large HP pool? Just some thoughts.
On top of that he gives you BRV regen and BRV gain as you hit the target, like a Cait Sith effect. Combining with all this, he practically is a giant healing and battery station.
Finally, his EX AOE revives anyone that's dead and it gives you +1 skill use on S1/S2. Does it not sound like Y'shtola's EX?
EX, semi-FG/EX charger:
While Selh'teus does not have a normal skill that can allow instant charging, his EX does fulfil that function. You can also use his AA in tandem with that idea, as it works like Iroha's and charges 50% of his EX. One more skill and you would be back to full EX again. You can also opt for using U4 for that purpose.
His EX also recharges everyone's EX by 20%.
FR:
His FR wants characters to be at or above 100% HP and using magic attacks. It does not have an extra HP dmg cap up. It is a rather easy to fulfil one if you have a full magic team, but it may be better to go with others with a cap up instead. It can also be used as a button to deal dmg while having 30% overheal.
BT:
His BT puts a 8T golden debuff onto bosses. It has DEF down, paralysis, HP dmg taken up and a mHP based poison.
The HP dmg taken up is actually quite nice for people that has uncapped attacks, like Aerith and Astos. The 1% mHP poison is just kind of there and it only takes if the target gets a turn. So don't expect too much out of it.
The BT also gives him a 11 AOE dump HP+ attack. It also overheals your party lol. You either spam it or use his 10 dump LD (no heal though) for DPS.
All in all, he is probably the most exciting character mechanically. He is more a lubricant that makes your party feel good. He only gets a +10% HP dmg cap at BT+2, so for me he is good enough to be at BT+0.
