Why The World Doesn't Need The Last of Us Remake

According to Bloomberg, The Last of Us is getting a brand new PS5 remake, with Sony shuffling around development studios at a frenetic pace in an effort to make the remake look its best.
At the same time, Sony is refusing to support smaller games that might not have quite as much iconic brand appeal, leading to a situation where PlayStation has a few big tentpole games but fewer quirky, more experimental titles.
This isn't great for gaming. It's a logical short-term business strategy for Sony, but it will hurt everyone - Sony included - in the long run. At a time when Microsoft is pushing to provide as many big, bombastic games as possible, Sony's focus on shrinking its number of titles - and, specifically, on remaking an existing popular game rather than doing a sequel or spin-off - will ultimately leave the PlayStation 5's game library all the poorer as a result.
