I'm not terribly happy how the "12V' output of the PSU is really around 22-27V. I've seen other sites list it at 20V, as if this is expected ... ?

The schematic shows 12V being used so I can't see why 20V+ is required inside the machine. I've had it running perfectly fine with a Mean Well PSU using its 5V and 12V outputs.

I did consider sticking a 12V regulator inside there but when measuring I noticed:

[1] Transformer output was around 10.6VAC
[2] 5V regulator input was around 13VDC
[3] 12V unregulated output was around 27VDC

Soooooo ... why not just use the 13VDC as the "12V" output ... ?

I'm sure I'll be chastised in the comments for why what I've done is bad ... which is fine ... I'm happy to learn!
