Робик (Robik): Part 4 - Final Mods
Final list of mods I've made to this neat little Ukrainian ZX Spectrum clone - almost halved power consumption:
[1] Replaced the attached PSU with a 2.1mm socket
[2] Replaced the КРЕН5А (KREN5A = Soviet 7805 linear regulator) with a switching regulator
[3] Heat sinks on the hot running chips (programmable logic matrices, ROMs, Z80)
[4] New RGBS+audio and cassette-in DIN cables
I didn't end up changing the red power LED ... this time.
Replacing the regulator dropped the current draw from 1.11A to 0.62A, as well as removing a large source of heat inside the machine.
