The 1981 Donkey Kong arcade game is back, on the Atari...but this is not the "Atari" you're familiar with. No, it's not the 2600, but the later 7800 console, and I will say that this forgotten system is underrated. Made in 1986, the 7800, is technically speaking a successor to the horrible 5200 model, meaning it is Atari's third console, and while it is designed to compete in the 8-bit generation, it shares the exact same sound chip as the original 2600 and is backward compatible - in short, the Atari 7800 is just an 8-bit graphically enhanced version of the vintage 1977 counterpart, which proved to be a flaw. It sadly never sold well, due to games being made at a terribly slow pace and of course Nintendo's licensing competition hurt sales of it and the Sega Master System, plus its full potential was never accomplished, since the main hardware (aside sound) is actually more powerful than the NES.

As seen here for Donkey Kong, this port is indeed an improvement over the 2600 version, and is close to the NES release in overall performance. Out of every port, however, it has the fastest Hammer theme beat I have ever heard and it is hilarious.
