This video comprises footage of 20+ demos, most of which outtakes, for the challenge of scoring all monsters and secrets from a pistol start on Doom 2's Map 25 'Bloodfalls' while taking no damage, whatsoever; a.k.a. UV Max + Reality. There is commentary throughout the video, much of it streamed live on Twitch as I played the game.
This culminates in the new World Record demo.

Thanks to Coincident for the transparent Doom 2 logo in the thumbnail.
Thanks to Brayden 'AD-79' Hart --- I borrowed the music from Arrival Map 06 for the analysis sections of the video.
Major thanks to NightTerror for inspiring me to speedrun this very challenging map --- I had a strategy for slow cautious No Damage play on this poison-packed hitscanner hell and then was shocked to see Terror's demo in December 2022. The student of tic-counting had done very well, but the teacher is not to be outdone! His manoeuvre into the side area with barrels was harder than any of my journeys across the damaging blood.
So many things that went wrong during attempts did not make it into this video --- the hitscanners near the plasma rifle troubled me a great deal until I found a more consistent way of peek-a-booing them. Occasionally a sergeant or zombie would get stuck in the side area with barrels and surprise me when I had just killed the revenant. And a run that would have improved on the World Record was invalid because I didn't notice the archvile revived an imp just before the vile died.
Since the SR50 to the revenant arena was the most precise poison journey, the Bus Timetable for Route Two had to be organised around that SR50, so that other trips were done at times that were slightly less than ideal, but this did not harm their reliability.
To discover the setups for the poison journeys, I would make training maps in DoomBuilder so that my starting position is close to the relevant section of blood. Then I recorded demos of me running from various potential start points, playing back the demos to time how many tics it took to enter the blood and for how long I was then on the damaging floor. More detail on the calculations:
SR50 to Revenant Arena --- standing in the corner with specific pixels lined up on the wall, when I try to start the SR50 it takes 4 tics to actually move, then 8 more tics to get on the blood. I am on the blood for 26 tics. If we aim to get on the blood 3 tics after a multiple of 32 (to be off at 29 mod 32), we should try to move 8 + 4 = 12 tics sooner, so 3 - 12 = -9 + 32 = 23 tics mod 32 is an ideal time to try to move.
1 second = 1 cycle of 32 tics + 3 more, so 1 second = 3 tics mod 32. Hence 29 seconds = 29 x 3 = 87 = 87 - 32 - 32 = 23 tics mod 32 as desired. (we are always free to add or subtract 32 as only the remainders mod 32 matter for the calculation). So 29 seconds mod 32 is ideal and we can use the 11 second rule once on either side to go at either 29 - 11 = 18 seconds mod 32 or 29 + 11 - 32 = 8 seconds mod 32.
In the video I refer to the 'whole second opportunity' at 18 seconds, but put the more correct time of 0:18.03 on screen to correct for the 1 tic error caused by subtracting 11 seconds from 0:29.00.
This is all because 11 seconds = 11 x 3 tics mod 32 = 33 tics = 1 tic mod 32.
The best way to actually calculate good times (at whole seconds) for the SR50 or any other trip, is to use the rule that 1:04 = 64 seconds = 2 x 32 seconds. So for the SR50 around the 3 minute mark, 1:04 x 3 = 3:12 is a multiple of 32. So taking away 3 seconds tells us that 3:09 = 29 seconds mod 32. Adding 11 seconds, 3:20 = 8 sec mod 32 and 3:30 = 18 sec mod 32.
Other setups:
Entering side area by SR40-ing from a specific knot on the wall facing a specific crack on the opposite wall. SR40 at 19 seconds mod 32.
Leaving the side area by SR40-ing from the join in the wall, taking a gently curving path towards the teleporter up to the starting area (which can be an unlucky line-skip sometimes!): At 30 seconds mod 32.
Dropping down from starting area with the diagonal approach as shown in the video, I walk forwards with the best times at 0, 1, 2, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, 31 sec mod 32.
Coming up, I will be streaming practice and attempts at No Damage Completion on Sunlust Map 05 'Gear Up' from 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday 29th August 2023 (G.M.T. + 1). Join us!
