This video comprises dozens of clips of attempts firstly at No Damage Completion and then at speedrunning UV Max + Reality on Doom 2's Map 22 'The Catacombs'. There is commentary throughout, mostly recorded live as I streamed the game on Twitch:

Speedrunning records are kept by the Doom Speed Demos Archive (DSDA) at https://dsdarchive.com/wads/doom2/leaderboard?category=UV Max
Thanks to Coincident for the transparent Doom 2 logo in the thumbnail and to Karl Jobst for letting me use a clip of his video in my intro.

For the first 10 minutes of the video, No Damage Completion requires all items as well as monsters and secrets from a pistol start with no damage taken. For the speedrunning, I lose the items requirement so it is UV Max + Reality. I therefore compete with the same rules as GarrettChan (3:00 in 2020) and 4ShockBlast (2:41 in 2016), who had both previously ran this map.
It is unusual for me to speedrun a map with one previous Reality demo on the archive, let alone two. This gave me the chance to learn from those who had gone before me. However, I didn't expect to have such a brilliant 'light-bulb' moment as when I realised that GarrettChan's route could be adapted to take the World Record.
The discovery happened when I wasn't streaming and to recreate it for the video, I was recording the sound through OBS directly instead of XBox Game Bar because Game Bar has a bug if I record while playing (I usually record demos as I stream and use Game Bar to capture footage afterwards). The clip shows me reloading a saved game, so I cannot use a demo for this. That's why the sound is a little strange at that part of the video.
Admittedly, I had pretty lucky RNG to succeed at the new strategy so quickly. For the WR run, having such an incredible start made me nervous, so I lost a bit of time in the rest of the demo. Fortunately I just about avoided getting hurt! I found out how good that run was by persevering for another 1500 attempts (not seen in the video) and not coming very close to beating it.
4ShockBlast is an inspiration, I'm sure, to many speedrunners and I certainly don't expect to beat him again. He does have a Reality record on Map 07 though...
Speaking of previous records, I will be tackling NightTerror's Map 25 UV Max + Reality (7:15 in Dec 2022) at some point in 2023, so following me on Twitch will let you catch me attempting that and many other No Damage challenges: twitch.tv/pjplaysdoom

STREAM ANNOUNCEMENT
-----------------------
I will be streaming Arrival on Monday 13th Feb 2023 (4pm GMT). It will be a little different from my normal streams because I don't have No Damage strategies worked out fully in advance, although I have had a moderate look at some of the harder maps.
Leave your suggestions in the comments for Arrival maps, describe them in any way you can and I will play them in the order suggested (Map 01 is impossible though). If there are no suggestions, I'll start with my favourite and go from there!
