https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/p-r/runbuddy You ever get the feeling that a endurance test is around the corner? I've had that feeling and I've been considering a special of Doom wads/mods that will focus on VERY long wads whether its a single level or more then 1 level or a megawad with very long levels, but with that aside, its time to tackle a wad that plain wore me out and made me question my sanity, undoubtly the longest episode yet in Doom Wads/Mods history, the infamous.. Run Buddy.

Run Buddy was authored by Michael Krause and released on April 30th 1998, Was honored as one of the top 100 wads of all time, Placed at 86 in the top 100 most notable maps, and replaces Map03. From the first notes of Countdown To Death, This is a map that is much different then other 1998 wads, and I'll be talking about the things that I heavily dislike about the wad and things that I like.

...Run Buddy is exhausting to say the least, Its one of the largest maps I've ever played, Michael's detailing of the map with massive open areas is something that in 1998 did cause issues due to REJECT tables issues, and I don't know, tbh, how someone back then could've played through this wad in a single sitting, and not only does it spread 3 keys across these massive map sectors but also several boss encounters. I personally, gave up on this video, first time I stopped recording after getting stuck as I had no idea how to progress.

Run Buddy's ammo placement is modest and requires careful usage to avoid wasting rockets as there's a lot of mid tier enemies to high tiers scattered in the maps' various locations, Michael also is very stingy with health pickups and avoiding wasting those was also a constant source of annoyance. Large open areas with chaingunners and revenants give me a lot of Plutonia Experiment flashbacks. But yet, despite these complaints, Run Buddy is a stunning piece of work for 1998, and one of those wads I'll think of for a long time to come.

[[This is another rejected from my Cacoaward special, season 3, I had great issues running it on Windows XP under Zdoom, and as before, I got tired.. This wad is so long that It is bigger then most but for sheer shock value, its absolutely no where near the size of the infamous Citadel at the Edge of Eternity from Community Chest]]
