Doom Wads/Mods The Rejected #24:The Call Of Ktulu
https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/j-l/ktulu As I've said, not every wad can be a winner and there's several episodes where I selected wads or mods I, basically, hated so much that it gave me burnout and that is the ugly side of the series, when I need to go through files that, yeah, some may like, but me? I don't.
The Call of Ktulu is a single level PWAD authored by Hellcat (Rudy Jurjako) and was released on August 17th 1998 while having a Midi version of The Call of Ktulu by Metallica as its music track. ...Where do I begin? Well, This PWAD starts off promising with some unique tricks in swimming in blood, a thing source ports were only just getting around to and some impressive mapping for a hell castle but there's two major issues that killed my enjoyment.
The Call of Ktulu's ammo and health placement is.. absolutely insane and ridiculous to say the least: I was having issues getting through the wad and seeing a archvile with extremely low health just.. pissed. me. off. Certainly this wad is a 1998 wad and give challenge to the name but I do not appreciate having to endure mid tier enemies/high tier while in cramped areas without any armor on and low health if there's limited pickups. I got stuck and wasn't sure how to progress so I ended the video.
[[Not to say the author is bad or nothing, but Ktulu.Wad's issues keep it from being enjoyable. This wad was replaced by The Revenant Problem in Season 5 as I was so furious from it. I wanted to like it, but I just can't.]]
