Doom Wads/Mods The Rejected #43:Nuke Mine
https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom/m-o/nukemine 1994 also had episode replaces as I've shown with Serenity, Slaughter Until Death and several other wads in this series' history, though its taken until now to go over one that has been cut from Hidden Gems, but also 4 seasons total, and its time I give due to it.
Released in 1994 on August 20th by Jason Hargreaves, Nuke Mine (Subtitled as Come Get Some) is a 9 level episode 1 replacement for Ultimate Doom, and its doomwiki page notes its story is more parody then serious wad at the time and its a long one, which was unusual for a 1994 wad at the time: "It appears that there has been an incident on Nexus 14. Nexus 14 is a mining planet, which basically means its a rock floating in some shitty solar system. Nexus 14 is known across the universe for its rich content of Nuke, a green substance that makes a great meat spread, paint thinner or extra firm hair gel. Anyways, the last report from the Nexus 14 communications centre warned of an attack from creatures released through a time-continuem breach (sorry if that's spelled wrong). You have been ordered to go in as survelance only. You are to assess the situation and be out in two hours to report to your commanding officer so that preparations can be made for a counter assault. The only problem is, you think your tough enough to take on the army of creatures yourself. You stupid twit! What makes you think that one person could possibly drive off an entire army of blood sucking demons from Dimension-X? Fine then, go ahead..."
From the first word go, Nuke Mine doesn't make the best of impressions with sounds that come from the Aliens TC by Justin Fisher and the infamous Laura Bayer's Doom and some questionable choices but Jason's mapping certainly is better then other 1994 wads, though his placement of random switches I kept hitting that didn't seem to do anything or had delayed responses was baffling to say the least. Ammo placement is decent and enemies are placed in many traps, with the blue key on E1M1 being a very impressive trap sequence for the time. Later maps aren't as impressive but Nuke Mine is a different animal vs the wads it was placed against.
[[This is another Season 1 reject, At the time I was going over Doomworld I.D. Archive and this file was at first decided on as I read that Cranium, who worked on the Master Levels as one of 6 authors, stated that this and several other wads were the inspiration for him to begin Doom mapping. I wouldn't call it spectacular, but I enjoyed this one more then I thought I would]]
