Driver 2 Walkthrough Part 1: The Witness (INTRO)
Welcome back to my channel, dear gamers. As promised, today we'll continue the walkthrough of Driver series with its second entry, Driver 2 so sit back, relax and enjoy the gameplay.
Please note that the frequent slowdown during gameplay is an issue that also occurs on actual PS1 hardware and as such has no relation to either my emulator or device used to play this game. Thank you for understanding and enjoy the gameplay.
About Game: Driver 2 (also known as both Driver 2: Back On The Streets and Driver 2: The Wheelman Is Back) is 2000 action-adventure video game developed by Reflections Software and published by Infogrames for PlayStation while GameBoy Advance version of the game was released in 2002. It is the second game of Driver video game series and a sequel to 1999's Driver: You Are The Wheelman, although its storyline is standalone and fully self-contained from its predecessor. It is also the final Driver game released on PS1. Upon release, Driver 2 wasn't as well-received as its predecessor, having received mostly mixed reviews from the critics of the time on account of its clumsy movement controls when outside of the vehicle and erratic framerate. Driver 2 was notable for being the first game in the series that allowed the players to leave their vehicle and move about in the game's world, setting a precedent that would be massively surpassed by Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto 3 released less than a year later. Despite this, and finding itself trounced in sales by GTA 3 later on, Driver 2 managed to persevere on the market, selling approximately 2 million copies within four months of release. Retrospectively, while not held in as high of a regard as first Driver, Driver 2 is today seen as another classic of PlayStation's lineup and one of the last major third-party titles released for the console as it started to lose spotlight to then-recently released PlayStation 2. Sequel of this game and third game of Driver series, Driver 3 (commonly stylized as Driv3r) was released in 2004.
Story of the game takes place an indeterminate amount of time after the events of Driver and follows John Tanner, ex-NYPD detective-turned FBI officer as he attempts to stop a gang war between American crime boss Solomon Caine and Brazilian gangster Alvaro Vasquez, which is being waged from United States of America all the way to Brazil. With the war having started over an attempt by Caine's money launderer and financial expert known as Pink Lenny to defect over to Vasquez, Tanner is tasked with tracking down and apperhending Lenny while also going back undercover in order to intervene in an on-going gang war between Caine and Vasquez.
One night, while sitting in an bar in Chicago with a mysterious Brazillian man, Pink Lenny narrowly survives an attempt on his life as two men arrive to the establishment and shoot it up, intending to kill Lenny. Although Lenny himself is able to escape, his Brazillian companion is gunned down in the altercation.
Following day, Tanner and his partner, Tobias Jones arrive to the police morgue in Chicago, discovering that the Brazillian killed during an bar shootout previous night was working for Alvaro Vasquez, as indicated by an elaborate tattoo on his arm. With Vasquez and his criminal outfit being highly notorious both for their cruelty and the fact that no one has ever actually seen Vasquez himself even on a photo, leading to the theory that he doesn't even exist, Tanner and Jones are tasked with conducting an investigation into the matter and uncovering what are Brazillian gangsters doing in Chicago. To start their investigation, two agents are pointed towards another survivor of the bar shooting who apparently knows more about the reason behind the incident than he said while giving an official statement. To that end, Tanner and Jones track the witness down and tail his car to the elevated train station where he boards a train. Undeterred, two agents continue to follow the train in their car, intending to intercept the witness once his train stops at the next station...
