Duke 3D was ported to the Amiga in 2003, and needed a hefty RTG board, at least an 040 CPU, and 8MB (32MB recommended) fast ram. Is the result worth upgrading to RTG, or is this too little, too late?

I like to include at least one RTG game in each series, so show what a 'Big Box' Amiga was capable of. It cost a lot of money for an A4000, but you got plenty of Zorro III slots, with room for a sound card, a CPU card, and a graphics card. But not many people played those games, or review them on youtube, so I recorded this while my RTG setup was still working (It's since been messed about by trying to install Wipeout so often now that it refuses to play any RTG games anymore). There are lots of installers on Animet, so I tried them all, and eventually found a good one; after discovering the brightness trick. I'd never played it before, and to be honest, d*ck-head shooters were never really my favourite games to play apart from Black and sometimes Medal of Honour, so the resulting footage wasn't amazing for my second try (after a quick warmup, were I reached the safe behind bar).

Danscore:
Before the internet we had a thing called 'word of mouth' - where this game took on a mythical status. Suddenly the world of gaming had matured overnight. Gone were the Sensible Soccers and the Cannon Fodders. Now, everything had to be in 3D, fully textured, and often had to have guns and first person action. While Doom and Doom 2 came and went without much of an impact to Amigans, this game aimed itself at 18-25 year old males, and pulled out the stops in terms of graphics. Sudden people needed a Big Boys computer to experience this grown up mayhem, and this coupled with the Wing Commanders, and the Dark Forces games, slowly lured innocent Amiga users over to a computer with triple-figure megahertz numbers, hi-colour, and a high dpi. Back in the day, the myth of this game spoke of players being able to freely urinate in toilets, and give money to prostitutes in seedy bars. Today, this seems tame compared to modern slaughter fests. Walking down a street and only killing two or three bad guys seems more like a cartoon; while in modern games they throw ten thousand zombies or aliens at the player from level 1. It is fun to explore the levels, and each location is memorable, with some in-jokes scattered around from time to time. Gameplay is mostly linear, although it relies on creeping around a bit too much for my liking, which leads to rushing in and getting killed. The difficulty curve is ok, although some puzzles might lead to players wandering around endlessly until they discover a hidden area, which means players can't just romp around gung ho. It has some cheeky 'Cigarettes and Lager, Loaded Magazine and Playboy' vibes; locked in a time machine forever; back to those innocent 1990s days. But that's where it ends for me. I would rather play some PS2 games to remind myself of those times, and for me this just seems like a dusty set of naughty 90s postcards bought on Southend pier during a drunken works do (a workers/colleagues night out). It is certainly fun and funny, and quite enjoyable, but not compared to Black on the PS2, or even The World is Not Enough on the Playstation. I'd give it a solid 7 for being a good game, but no plans to come back to this one again.
