54Shadow Fighter is a one-on-one beat em up game, and another later Street Fighter 2 contender, released as OCS and also AGA in 1995. This tried to be at least a lot more playable than Rise of the Robots, but can it beat Body Blows, Elf Mania, and Fightin Spirit? Lets find out.

This was recorded for series 5 or 6 or something like that, and it never saw the light of day. I also recorded Fighin Sprit at the same time, and also Shadow Warriors, and so I thought it was about time to dig these out. As usual for these types of games, I played the game cold after never playing it before, just to get a feel for the levels. Sadly, it looks like some of the more interesting backdrops were not recorded in the footage, because I didn't find them on the map at the time.
This is the final game to be reviewed and edited for this series, and it was only finished Monday of last week, so that gives you some idea that the series really does take a full year to produce these videos. So that means I can finally declare this series DONE! and move on to recording games for next September.

Beat em ups were never a favourite of mine growing up, although I do remember hanging out in Curry's in Blackburn playing Street Fighter 2 on the SNES after my training classes had finished for the day, with a friend, until we got kicked out for arguing and swearing etc. The Amiga was lacking a good few MegaHertz to make a good fast beat em up, and even Street Fighter 2 in the arcades ran on a 68020! There were quite a few wannabees on the Amiga, and very few of them could muster up much high adrenaline action. Shadow Fighter has arcade quality graphics on the AGA version, and a nice big selection of fighters. Music is often pumping, and gameplay feels solid and responsive. Special moves galore are available, and the backdrops range from fairly boring to really great. Sadly, the difficulty curve relies heavily on the special moves, and without them, most casual players will get beaten up by all of the other contenders, leaving them feeling rather deflated. This has all of the hallmarks of a classic, and many players give this good marks on Lemon, so I can't in fairness give it anything more or less than 7.5 out of 10.
