Easy acceleration with motionAdd - [Game Maker Studio 2 | Basics]
This basics video tutorial shows you how create an easy acceleration in GameMaker Studio.
The idea is quite simple. You want to used the inbound speed variable but not in a constant way. So to make this into an acceleration you can use the motion_add function to constanly update the speed value when for expample pressing a keyboard button. That can be also used as a counter force for an break button. To make this a bit more realistic you can additionallly use the inbound friction as a constant force that decreases the the speed a bit all the time. By that you already have established an easy ready to go system.
You can of course not use the inbound variables of speed, friction and direction and use your own variables, but they are there already... so why not used them and make life easy.
