Einhander (PS1) Playthrough - Hard Mode - Unknown Fighter I (Schabe)
Playthrough of Einhander for the PS1 on Hard mode mode on ps1 with the Unknown Fighter I (Schabe). This Ship is unlocked by completing the game on any difficulty (besides Free) while getting at least 15 of the 21 bonuses in one game. In theory you can unlock both Unknown Fighter I and II at the same time by finishing hard mode with no more than 3 continues while getting the bonuses necessary but it can be hard to do so as some bonuses can be really annoying to get. The Unknown Fighter I plays completely different of any ship in the game since you are using the first enemy you encounter in the game. It plays very similar to a traditional Shoot em up. The Schabe cannot actively use gunpods but instead it has a level system where each gunpod collected will increase its level by one each time and give it a additional firepower depending which types of gunpods it collected last. Increasing its level will increase the amount of shots it fires from its machine gun up to 4 shot streams at once and will increase the amount of shots of its additional shot as well. Collecting either the Wasp or the Mosquito gives the Schabe homing additional shots and thats pretty much the one you want 100% of the time especially after getting to level 20 (Max) as you dont need to collect more gunpods unless you pick another one by accident a need to return to the homing ones. Because playing as the Schabe feels like a traditional shooter compared to the Einhander style ships, it also has the same problem that classic Shoot em ups like Gradius, R-Type and the such have in common... if you die you have a very high chance of getting stuck for good where you died... dying as the Schabe resets you back at level 1 so you have to collect another set of 20 gunpods again to compensate for that loss and if you die on a boss you wont have a amount to level up enough even to upgrade the machine gun to 2 shots as the maximum amount of gunpods the game can give you on a recovery on bosses never surpasses 4 gunpods before it. I completed the game with Schabe legit before but during recording, recording curse was happening and i would die in the worst possible locations and end up dying a million of times to get through so i decided to use Save States in this run. The Schabe essentially is the worst ship in the game as it cant use a mechanic that the others ships can use that essencially nullifies the curse of Shoot em ups when it comes to a recovering run as it cant start with a weapon... i guess the devs at Squaresoft when making this bonus ship knew fully about this situation when making the game... Funny how Squaresoft first and only ever Shoot em up game basically eliminated the curse of the genre when it comes to dying... They were truly ahead of its time just like when they made Einhander. If this game ever re-realeased in a remake with modern graphicssimilar to today standards (and how detailed the enemies and bosses look like in the gallery section of the US version of einhander) man... It would be AWESOME!!!
