Hello everyone and welcome to Music Theory with GUIM! In this installment we take a look at Edvard Grieg's Lyric Piece, Summer's Eve. We'll be exploring some Applied or Secondary Harmony. Grieg offers us a lot of strong, functional harmony in this short excerpt. One chord in particular, however, is just jaw-dropping and goose bump inducing!
So check out this short video and learn a little bit more about the harmony that Grieg uses and how he takes advantage of a simple concept to create something absolutely memorably!
We'll certainly be returning to this piece in the future as well as dig into many others!
Thanks for watching!!
