FALLOUT 4 LET'S BUILD SarDeliac's Easy City Downs Farmhouse while using NO MODS
SarDeliac's original build here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKmBp9CDBso&t=427s
As I mentioned SarDeliac is one of my favorite Fallout 4 builders. In addition to his wonderful builds he has a way of looking at various aspects of the game in a way that is very unique. He notices things that many of us just gloss right over. From the lore of the game, to the mechanics, to even the tiniest details his analytical insight is always so interesting.
Sar also likes to build "Scrappy" style builds and often looks to in-game Bethesda built structures for inspiration. This Easy City Downs structure is just one of many. When Sar built this he mentioned the upper left side was probably not possible to duplicate without using mods to sink it onto the roof. Recently, in one of SarDeliac's live streams, I introduced him to the power of the Camp Fire. I wasn't sure if he fully grasped the power of the Camp Fire at the time so I decided to do a quick build to demonstrate it and this building seemed like the perfect example.....Well me, being me, it took almost 3 weeks to get this vid out that I had hoped to have out in 3 days and Sar is already starting to master the Camp Fire.
2:25 is where the Camp Fire use begins. If you are not aware of the Camp Fire technique it works much like the Garden Plot and allows us to sink things in a lot of places we normally cannot. This build can also be done with the Garden Plot but the Camp Fire is less awkward for me. Here is my original vid showing the power of the campfire

A few things worth pointing out.
0:45 The reason I used NastyBonz's trick was to lower the floor one thickness. Without doing this the upper floor would have had a gap. SarDeliac used Group Select to position his upper floor but I wanted to show another method for precise placement.

4:00 That deep wall piece I'm am using was the wrong one. I used the greenish warehouse style one and Easy City uses the brown rusty one.
6:00 I should have snapped that railing in earlier using the same technique I did at 2:55 but the Camp Fire saves me again.
6:30 I'm using metal stairs. The wooden stairs used in Easy City are not available in Vanilla. SarDeliac used a mod that let's him snap the short wooden stairs together and that's what he did. In Vanilla they do not snap. In past experience Group Selecting those shorter stairs together has often caused settler pathing issues and there is nothing worse than a settler stuck on stairs you are trying to use. Because of that I chose the metal one.
7:00 Easy City uses the double wide railing that norespawns never liked. I should have used it instead of two small railings but I didn't catch my mistake in time.
9:40 We do not have the same raider tents and banners Bethesda uses in Easy City so I did not try to position them exactly the same. And if you are wondering yes several of my tents would be floating well above the ground so I rugged spiked poles into them to make the legs reach the ground.
13:15 The lit cigar on an aluminum tray was another thing I stole from SarDeliac. Much better than an ashtray in the wasteland. In my defense I believe Sar has said he himself stole it from someone but I can't recall who he said.
13:28 You can catch a glimpse of XXIV Games' Fire Barrel Street Lamp. He built it using mods and it can be a bit tricky to build in Vanilla. I've thought about doing a tutorial in the past but never have. Let me know if you're interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q-RO78EwMY
13:45 You'll have to watch SarDeliac's original build video to understand what is happening here.
9:15-12:45 I've often mentioned that we builders tend to over junk decorate and that Bethesda makes things look good and tell a story with way less junk than we do. I'm this build I tried to copy Bethesda's junk decor as close as possible (within reason) During the tours I noticed how much emptier my build feels. I think there are a couple things at work. The first and I think biggest is Bethesda has random trash and dirt we don't have. They leave a whole shelf empty and put some dirt on it and it looks full. Our shelf just looks empty. I did use some burned magazines to try and replicate but it's not the same. 2nd we cannot control the grass/bushes they randomly spawn on each load. The grass draws your eyes away from the decor. 3rd they just have more pieces to work with. Their broken shelves look so much better than my regular shelves and so does their chemistry cart......I've now changed my stance on junk decor. We do need to use more than Bethesda but perhaps still not as much as we normally do.
Originally I planned to delete this save but I like how it turned out and may return someday to build an entire settlement full of raider catwalks.
