Game: Faxanadu Randomizer (Hack)
Platform: NES
Completed: September 8, 2022
Rules: Beat the game
Part: 2 of 2

Good ol' HalDanGhor recommended this randomizer and this is the same seed that can be seen on his channel (there's other great stuff on there too). Up until he mentioned it to me, I had no idea that this randomizer even existed so I intentionally didn't look at anything about it so I could go in with as many surprises as possible.

Here are some highlights:

13 minutes, 30 seconds - This guru can't promote you or give you a mantra or serve as a restart point in case you die. What does he actually do? Do I need that third fountain for him to do something?

17 minutes, 30 seconds - Trolled! There was so much build-up to this point!

24 minutes - You can just keep picking up the rod here I guess. The infinite wing boots are amazing though.

25 minutes, 30 seconds - I am a superhero indeed. Watch me fly right through your ceiling!

45 minutes, 30 seconds - Crazy sprite movement here.

58 minutes - Another troll door! Imagine having to come all the way back here with a Queen key. I'm so glad I had one. Also that enemy is invincible for some reason.

1 hour, 30 seconds - A superhero once again! Whoosh!

1 hour, 8 minutes, 20 seconds - Look at this glitch. If I didn't have another pair of wing boots then I would have had to reset! I suppose this also happens in the original game but I'm not sure.

1 hour, 13 minutes - This happens in the original game as well, but this is a fun typo. Ring of Dworf. I wrote down in my notes while I was playing this game that this guy wanted me to come back as a "Swordsman". I thought that was a rank but I don't remember getting any rank of that name. Perhaps you need the Dragon Slayer?

1 hour, 24 minutes, 30 seconds - Are you kidding me? Another troll door! At least you get a restart point here but it takes so long to go back and get the Jack key just for this.

1 hour, 31 minutes, 30 seconds - I really, really tried to get that potion. Not so sure it's possible.

1 hour, 34 minutes, 40 seconds - I didn't know where to go so I came back here. The game locked me in place on this screen so I was just goofing around before I called it quits and shut the game off for the night when...MAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTOOOOOOOOCK! I was unaware that the mattock could just break whatever wall was in front of you. I thought it had to be a special wall or something. I'm so glad this happened because I would have NEVER gotten the idea to head back to that red area and try the mattock there. What a crazy playthrough so far.

1 hour, 42 minutes, 40 seconds - I got knocked back by that clapper enemy at the last possible second and wasted the mattock. Time to reset and re-enter the mantra! And listen to the entire title screen track because it's great.

1 hour, 44 minutes, 40 seconds - After re-entering my password and using the mattock properly this time, I quickly realized that this door was a TROLL! Reset and enter the mantra AGAIN, but only after rocking out to that title screen song again.

1 hour, 46 minutes, 40 seconds - Unavoidable troll enemy here, as well as a glitchy enemy in the next screen. What a game!

1 hour, 51 minutes - A Willow reference! That's fun.

1 hour, 58 minutes, 40 seconds - Apparently the clapping enemies can still hurt you even if you're "invincible" from the ointment. Lovely.

2 hours, 34 minutes, 10 seconds - This guy sells the same item twice, and for different prices! Randomizers are fun.

2 hours, 42 minutes - Didn't expect to see this guy in one of the buildings. No reward for beating him either.

2 hours, 44 minutes, 50 seconds - Since I now had access to unlimited mattocks I thought I'd play around. Turns out you cannot use it on the edge of the screen, which is a shame because I wanted to see what happened if you touched the screen border.

2 hours, 48 minutes, 10 seconds - This guy surprised me! I guess I expected to have to go back and fight him in his normal room that was empty in this randomizer. Actually come to think of it, that entire area was pointless. Oh and the ending of this fight is amazing. Look at that pose. Good thing I had the elixir!

There were two doors I didn't enter near the end of the game. One required a Queen key and the other I didn't even try. I wonder what they had behind them. More troll doors, perhaps?

Final thoughts:
Thanks to HalDanGhor for recommending this one. I had no idea this rasndomizer existed but I loved it. This randomized seed was amazing, and the TROLL DOORS were out of control! So many doors that made you go all the way back to grab keys just to leave you with nothing and laugh in your face. There were quite a few enemies that I didn't recognize from the original game so I'm not sure whether they are unique to the randomizer or maybe from the Famicom version. What a great time. I would certainly recommend this one.
