Moo and team decide that level 17 is finally an acceptable time to tackle the Marsh Cave and move on with the quest. They do some things, get some stuff, and replace the batteries in their controller. Here are some highlights:
7 minutes, 35 seconds - Certain squares have forced battles that you can actually fight over and over by stepping on the square again. Here I demonstrate that.
14 minutes, 40 seconds - Astos has a chance to use RUB on his first turn and just kill one of your people with absolutely nothing you can do about it. Generally when that happens I like to reset since I'd like for all of my characters to get the experience from the battle.
57 minutes, 50 seconds - Have some pointless fun with these town tiles.
1 hour, 6 minutes, 50 seconds - This hallway for some reason has a forced battle every step of the way that contains Giants and Iguanas. Not really sure why they did this since it leads nowhere but I thought I'd see if I could make it all the way through.
1 hour, 24 minutes, 50 seconds - My controller batteries died here and it took a while for me to replace them. I also found that you can't use SOFT potions in battle. Why?
1 hour, 23 minutes, 30 seconds - If you pause the game or get into a battle, you can clearly see the staircase underneath the slab here. That changes nothing.
1 hour, 50 minutes - Turns out that you can remove the slab by using the ROD from a distance. I tested how far away you could be and it seems that you have to be in the actual little room with the slab itself. This also changes nothing and is similar to using the FLOATER later in the game.
2 hours, 13 minutes, 45 seconds - After obtaining the canoe I think you're supposed to go to the volcano but why not visit this place first for some great gear? Oddly, the guy who stands in the entrance says you need the crown to proceed and then disappears when you talk to him. I was curious if you needed to talk to him or not but it appears that you don't. Also...the crown? That's a strange requirement since there's no way to get to this point without it and it was already used for something else. This must have been a mistake. I end up speaking to him later and it seems to change nothing.
2 hours, 17 minutes - This battle is a great example of Final Fantasy random nonsense. Not enough? How about the very next battle as well? The Sorcerer is a horrible enemy. It has has an ability that can paralyze you but also has an attack that causes instant death. There is nothing in the game to prevent this from working except luck.
2 hours, 23 minutes - The Zeus Gauntlet is a great piece of equipment to use in battle, as it casts a free LIT2 each time. Oddly, the effect of the gauntlet (as well as other pieces of equipment that cause spells to be used in battle) is grey when used as the Fighter/Knight whereas in my previous playthrough with four RedMAGEs the explosion was colored. The Zeus Gauntlet had a red explosion with the RedMAGEs. I wonder why it differs.
2 hours, 43 minutes, 20 seconds - Just like when in the boat, you can also use a tent, cabin, or house while in the canoe.
3 hours, 13 minutes, 30 seconds - If you take the time to speak to everyone in this game, you actually get hints to pretty much everything you need to do. This one is tougher to find though because this particular elf only says this after a certain point in the game. I guess the clue depends on if you have the FLOATER and not anything to do with beating the volcano since I hadn't done that yet.
