The pirates on the center of the map will not move until a unit makes an action in a specific trigger zone (basically, the trigger zone doesn’t cover the east and north sides of the map). After recruiting Canas, Marcus is dropped into this zone, but since he didn’t made any action in this zone there is no problem. My other units end their turn as close as possible of the zone.

Canas is the only Dark magic user of the game before the final chapter, so he has unique access to various tomes like Luna, Nosferatu or Eclipse. His offensive and defensive stats are also good for a magic unit, especially after promotion.

Marcus face a pirate with a Swordreaver on turn 1, so he has a Silver Lance equipped to deal enough damage to him. Marcus has a 12% crit chance against this pirate, and it is highly desirable that he doesn’t crit, else he would be in range of the Halberd!pirate.

On turn 2, my units enter the trigger zone and take a very specific formation so that anyone but Marcus will only have to face a single opponent on enemy phase, who will be unable to ORKO them. Including the previous Swordreaver!pirate, Marcus faces 4 attacks on this chapter, and he only needs to dodge one of them to survive.

On turn 3, I must open a path to let Marcus speak to Fargus, which is easily done except for that archer who requires a Killing Edge crit. I visited some houses for a Devil Axe, a Short Bow and a Sleep Staff, but the Lancereaver house (as well as the arena) was out of reach, though not a big deal since I will be able to buy reaver weapons on chapter 24.
