Felix the Cat - (NES) - Full Playthrough
This is my 35th video! I can't believe I've already beaten/played through 35 games. I noticed my 'E-H' section was awfully light, so I sifted through the NES library and found something to add to it: Felix the Cat! Felix the Cat was released in 1992 for NES by Hudson Soft, the makers of 'Bomberman' and 'Adventure Island'. This is another game that was never released in Japan, just like my previous two videos: 'StarTropics' and 'Bart vs. the Space Mutants'. I never owned this game, but I remember renting it and possibly beating it during the 3-day rental period. It's definitely a fun game, although it lacks the 'tough but fair' challenge that makes finishing an NES game feel like an accomplishment.
The player controls Felix the Cat through 9 worlds and 23 levels, as he sets out to defeat the evil mad Professor who has kidnapped Felix's lovely girlfriend, Kitty. To help him, Felix has his iconic Magic Bag of Tricks, which transforms into something useful such as a tank, airplane or even a spaceship. Felix's magic depletes the longer the transformation lasts, so he must continuously collect more magic throughout the levels in order to maintain his current form or to gain a more advanced transformation. Much of the fun in this game comes from discovering all the transformations.
Unlike the restrictive controls of 'Bart vs. the Space Mutants', the controls here are almost too loose and responsive. So many times I thought I reacted too slowly to dodge an attack, only to find that Felix did indeed move quickly enough. This game is certainly not overly complicated, nor does it really need to provide any instructions on gameplay, as anyone who picks it up and starts playing will figure out the mechanics of play almost instantly. I did die a few times out of carelessness, but I never felt like I would have to sit down and really practice any of the levels in order to beat it.
