And finishing up the Hanna-Barbera collection of NES games is 'Wacky Races', developed by Atlus and released in the May 1992 (US). Wacky Races is definitely one of the lesser-known Hanna-Barbera cartoons, as it ran for only one season in the late 1960s. The cartoon revolves around several racers with various themes who are each allowed to use strange gimmicks to compete against other racers in many races across the United States.

So, first off let's pull the band-aid off real quick. There's no racing whatsoever in this game lol. It's a platformer where the player controls 'Muttley' through three different areas. All three must be completed to reach the game's ending. The first two areas have three stages each, while Go Go America has four. The player can jump and initially use a short-ranged bite attack, but by collecting bones, the player can swap them in a fashion reminiscent of the Gradius series for a bomb attack, a flying "bark shot", the ability to glide with Muttley's tail, and extra health. Each of the ten stages ends in a boss battle against one of the other ten racers. Defeating one will clear the current stage and defeating all three/four in that area will allow progression to the next area.

I'm a fan of Atlus definitely and while the gameplay doesn't live up to other cherished titles I've played (Rockin' Kats comes to mind), there's more good than bad here. The only lacking is any sort of serious challenge and well... racing
