Yabba Dabba Doo! Did I ever have a dabba doo time with this game! I had low expectations of this game, I figured it'd be more like the 'Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers' games, but this game was definitely more developed that that. While still not on the 'Mega Man' level, this game has a couple things working in it's favor, making perhaps just complex enough to be a good NES game. The quick playthrough time definitely makes it worth giving this game a whirl, if you're looking for a new NES game to play.

'The Surprise at Dinosaur Peak' is a platform game released by Taito in 1994. My last three videos have all been NES games that were not released in Japan and... this makes four actually so the trend continues! Legend has it that this NES game was released in North America as a 'Blockbuster Video' exclusive title. To this day, there is no evidence that this game was ever sold in retail stores, so the claim is believed to be true. It's also the third final NES game released in North American and had a low number of copies produced, which makes it one of the rarest NES games. If you see this game at a thrift store or garage sale or something, buy it!

The game features ten levels, plus two optional sports mini-games, as Fred and Barney journey through Bedrock to save Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm. There's a nice, gradual progression in difficulty as you make your way to the game, along with a few good challenges in the final level to cap things off with. Several levels require you to play as both Fred and Barney, switching between the two in order to use the skill needed to progress further. Additionally, the game offers various power-ups and recovery items, along with weapons you can deploy using the Castlevania-style UP and B combo.

All-in-all, definitely worth your time to play this one if you have access to it. The final stage is a good final test of your caveman skills and I'll confess it took me a fair share of tries to get through the final part with Barney where you have to climb up really quickly or die. My controller's A button kept sticking...
