The initial draft of the new version of the guide had Zidane getting his trance gauge (TG) close to full to make the fight with Black Waltz 1 and Sealion end much quicker than before. You must encounter 3 Mu on the world map to do this quickly! By knocking out everyone else at the start, Zidane is the only eligible target, and the trance gauge only increases if Zidane takes damage. It doesn't matter how much. Also his TG increases by a random amount not exceeding his current spirit stat each time he is hit, so his TG needs to go up quickly so reset if his gauge is not filling up fast enough! You need the TG to be about 4 hits from trance, so just shy of a full green ATB gauge is where you want it.

Unfortunately, this strategy did not make the final revision but it still works nevertheless. If the fight with Baku at the Prima Vista Crash Site gave Zidane close to a half-full TG, then this method might be better.

After that it's time for the Ice Cavern, and since Zidane is still the only one not knocked out, you are forced to get to Mois with no encounters, or one with a very quick escape! By changing screens, you reset the encounter check, so you NEED to do this on the middle two screens. This is the toughest part of this segment, but it IS POSSIBLE! I did the Ice Cavern 3 times when trying to get Zidane's TG just right, and with 0 encounters each!

Zidane gets the Leather Wrist once you pick it up, and fully heal him and he goes to the front row.

During the BW1/Sealion battle, you have only one shot at stealing the Mythril Dagger, before healing yourself with a potion before trance is induced! Once under trance, kill BW1 with a Free Energy, then physically attack Sealion once, and then Free Energy to win! Zidane should not be in danger of getting KOed.

Return to Mois to save after the battle or take your chances with encounters getting to the world map! Personally I prefer to go back to save!

In retrospect, the old way of just getting through the Ice Cavern without trance prepping is probably better, depending on how full your trance gauge got during the Baku battle at thePrima Vista Crash Site.
