First things first. Since we can use neither equipment nor Espers, it doesn't really make sense to do more sidequests than we need to get 12 characters and prepare for Kefka's Tower. I also didn't record every single boss I fought and left only the interesting ones (Tentacles, Dullahan and now Chadarnook).

I fought him with the sound off and a few days later discovered there was something wrong with the emulator's sound settings: the sound was distorted to the extent I didn't recognise the battle theme. It seemed a good idea to put the decisive battle over it so I did.

Anyway... Chadarnook is always extremely annoying. The form that you should hit keeps disappearing too often (hit 5 times / 30 seconds, but I'm not sure) and the other form knows nasty status effects, including charm, sleep and doom.

I brought Gau, Sabin, Edgar and Gogo. The latter two debilitate the boss to ice because our strategy will depend upon raging Baalzephon with Gau and Gogo, casting Ice 3 50% of the time. We choose Baalzephon as it gifts us lightning absorption. Very important, as we are poorly levelled (deliberately however) and a single Bolt 3 targeting the whole party makes it a game over.

I don't recall ever having Edgar and Sabin survive until the end of the battle. They should help out with healing and dealing damage (Sabin's Bum Rush does more damage than Ice 3, I think) but eventually they'll go down and the rest of the party will remain in auto-pilot. I probably wouldn't have lost them in this battle if I used X-Potions but I still didn't have Locke and wanted to conserve those for later use.

The ending is pretty epic: first Edgar and Sabin die, Gogo follows and Gau solos this until the victory, doomed. I was praying that Ice 3 would kick in here and it did.
