This used to be a HUGE obstacle on my last playthrough of this challenge and I nearly quit due to my inability to win this battle, if it wasn't for people's support who gave me advice and encourage me to keep trying.

Prepare a party of Balthier (heavy armour & helm), Ashe (heavy armour & light helm) and Basch (heavy armour & light helm). Make sure you have 1 Hastega Mote, 1 Warp Mote, some Bacchus' Wine. Basch should have a Handaxe for additional evade, because he will never attack in this battle anyway and most importantly because Vossler will concentrate all his attacks on Basch until either of them dies. Balthier obviously needs to have his best gun - Sirius (available in Rabanastre after you get Belias), and powerful ammo - Aqua Shot.

Begin the battle by having Basch use a Warp Mote on the Imperials. I had 2 Warp Motes, because I reset after beating Judge Ghis and repeated the battle without using warping his allies. Tough, but possible. If you run out of motes and there is still at least one Imperial on the field, reset, you've got no other acceptable choice.

Now have the wounded characters healed, and have Balthier enter the field. Now you should try getting Bal into both Berserk and Haste while Basch and Ashe help the kingslayer stay alive with Potions.

This part is tricky, because a combo from Vossler in 90% cases kills Basch before he is healed. There are two ways how to avoid this (neither guarantees success because he can get a really long combo string). The first method is having Basch run away, healing himself. This will delay Vossler's attack greatly and give Balthier extra time to shoot. The second method is pressing X everytime Vossler begins his attack animation - that way it is even possible to survive 3 hits in a row, if you time Basch's and Ashe's Potions right. I've done this before, but the 4th hit killed me, so this is not all that effective if luck's not on your side.

If Basch dies, more often than not, Vossler concentrates his attacks on the sky pirate and unless you equipped him Light Armour (you shouldn't), he will NOT survive a single blow.

The conclusion is that if Basch dies too early, you HAVE to reset, unless you have farmed around 40 Motes, in which case the battle will be doable (by having two characters revive a fallen one while the third party members throws a mote), but this will take AGES, literally. Not suggested.

At about 50% health, Vossler readies Enrage. This makes him a bloody monster, as he can attack without charging, meaning he attacks you BEFORE you are able to use an item from your inventory.

However, if you start doing the changing equipment trick with Balthier once Az is at around 60% health, you should get him to around 30-40% after Enrage and after that we have another excellent strategy to let us survive.

When you cast a spell in this battle, Azelas senses it and delays whatever action he was about to perform to cast Reflect on himself.

This news is spectacular, because we abuse this weakness in his gambit setup! Have Ashe trick Vossler by imitating a Cure casting. He will delay his attack and start casting Reflect. Immediately do the equip/unequip trick and while he casts Reflect throw Aero Motes on him while Balthier attacks too.

He should be near dead now, if he isn't - throw more Aero Motes. These things do damage as strong as Balthier's shots at this point (because Vossler gets a huge defence boost at critical health).

This is a great cure against one of the challenge's most dreadful obstacles, hope you enjoy this method!

Music choice: Steve Hackett - "Every Day" (taken from "Spectral Mornings").
