Square Enix has been very explicit that they are very against the monetization of any footage of their game. This sort of policy means that anyone who tries to earn a living making quality coverage (like myself, Mr Happy & Totalbiscuit) cannot viably produce content on the game. The thing is that review and education commentary is protected by law, we are allowed to produce and monetize FFXIV content. However, if Square pressures YouTube (and it sounds like they will) then YouTube will likely roll over and allow copyright strikes or the removal of our content. Is it really worth it for content producers like myself to continue to cover a game with such a risk?
