In order to leave with the Mime materia, you have to fight the Mimic. Now this battle is interesting because who you fight actually depends on who's leading the party at the time. There are three possibilities: a mimic of Cloud, a mimic of Tifa or a mimic of Cid. Each of these Mimics are dangerous in their own way and should not be taken lightly. While all three of the are weak to poison and can be poisoned, each mimic is different as far as what attacks they use are concerned, and I show a battle with each of the three mimics separately - the Tifa mimic is the easiest of the three, while the Cid mimic is the hardest of the three. My overall setup largely remains the same, but I change a few materia around for each of them.
(Cloud Mimic) - Cloud Mimic can not only hit hard, but he can hit multiple times. If we don't get a Magic Counter + Restore counter to interrupt his combo, we're almost guaranteed to die. He can also use Mimesis, which deals over 2k damage, and he can also cast spells like Ice 3, Bolt 3 and Confu. We equip Headband to prevent the confusion, and only attack with Bio 3 when it's safe to do so; in other words, we want to wait until Aerith finishes all of her counterattacks, and if she counter heals herself, then we can go on the offense; otherwise we manually cast Cure 3. We also want to keep both barriers up as much as we can - and keep a limit break at the ready when they run out. Bio 3 deals a bit over 3k damage with poison dealing decent damage as well; these guys don't have super high HP, but it's enough to drag out the battle for a little bit.
(Tifa Mimic) - This mimic is the easiest of the three. She mainly uses status based attacks like Fascination and Goodnight Kiss; the former inflicting confusion and the latter inflicting sleep and poison. I alter Aerith's setup a little bit; replacing Headband with Touph Ring to reduce the damage of her elemental spells, and added in Added Effect + Hades on armor to prevent the status attacks. This also allows me to give Aerith a bit more damage on her Bio 3, as it deals 4k here. When her limit fills, she uses Clone Whisper, which heals her for around 5k-ish and removes poison. Not too big of a deal. Barriers aren't as important to keep up here, but I do keep them up anyway, because the less damage taken, the better.
(Cid Mimic) - The Cid Mimic has some pretty nasty attacks, so we need to be careful. He can hit just as hard (sometimes harder) as the Cloud mimic, so he can definetly be a threat, especially with Magitek Wire. We equip Storm Ring to block the paralysis effect of Magitek-prod, but unfortunately, I also needed both Elemental + Fire and Elemental + Ice, as well as Added Effect + Time, so I didn't have room for confusion protection, so Confu causes a little issue for me here, and what makes it worse is that Aerith's Princess Guard heals on a physical attack, and that heal is quite strong. Bio 3 is still our main source of offense; but I had to take a risk and throw a Vaccine to avoid any more Confu spells. Unfortunately, throwing up a Vaccine means I can't be barriered for the remainder of the battle, so I try to kill him off as quick as I can at this point.
