I buy a few things before beginning this map even though I think it's overkill : two Torch staves and another Lightning tome for Artur.

This map can be very challenging because of one thing mostly : this is the first of three (iirc) maps with fog of war and this makes this chapter way harder since you need to go pretty fast to save the villagers to get 5000 gold (or a promotion item exclusively for Neimi but it's Neimi in a 0% growth context) but your vision is limited.

Fortunately there are three options to help with this. The first one is to deploy Colm since thieves have better vision in fog of war. You can also use the Torch item you get in a village in chapter 5 to gain a temporary boost to vision and it stacks with the thief bonus so I give it to Colm. The last way to help is to use the Torch staff. This is a D-rank staff that lets you gain vision near a spot you choose in your range. It gives a bit more experience than a heal or mend staff (15 vs 11 or 12 respectively) but the best part is that it gives 5 weapon experience points when you use the Torch staff (Heal gives 2 and Mend gives 3) so I'll try to spam this staff as much as I can during the map.

I also want to talk a bit about staff range since it is the first time it happens in this game. It usually is either 1-range where you need to be adjacent to the character you want to heal (just like the Heal staff) or it has a range that goes between one and half the user's magic (the S-rank staff has infinite range but it's the only exception). Moulder has 4 magic so he'd have 1-2 range right ? Wrong. The game gives you at least 1-5 range if you'd have less than 5 maximum range.

I split my group into two basically. Seth goes north to deal with some enemies, to get the droppable elixir and halberd and go near the boss and Colm follows him while staying out of range of the enemies. I also have Colm use a Torch on turn 1 for more vision. The other group runs away from the starting point since there are cavaliers that spawn here on turn 4 and I use the turns Seth needs to reach and defeat the boss to get Moulder, Artur and Joshua some nice experience. Eirika will visit the village to gain an antitoxin while Vanessa leaves this group to go help the defenseless villagers since a giant spider comes near them (you still have until turn 7 or 8 to reach the spider so you have some time) but she can't reach them before Seth onerounds the boss with the steel sword. Yeah it's worse than the iron lance this time but I want Seth to get to S-rank swords, not lances so I need to use swords more (and I had to use lances for most of the map to deal with the cavaliers).

The only thing I miss in this map is the droppable Iron blade but I don't really care about that since I think blades are usually pretty bad weapons.
