Pokemon SoulSilver – Rival, Azalea town (no exp)
0This one was a doozy to record tbh. When I tried it before recording it was pretty smooth but it seems that both OBS and my luck didn't want me to win without a few attempts (OBS crashed the recording twice before I updated it). Unfortunately my strategy is quite a bit luck-based.
Gastly is by far the easiest Pokemon to face. The level 1 Togepi could defeat it with Extrasensory but I went with a Spearow instead. I'll win this matchup with varying health depending of when Gastly uses Curse.
Zubat is very luck-dependant. I use Ekans to lower its attack with Intimidate before sacrificing Spearow. Onix comes next and his goal is to use Screech thrice and either use Tackle at least once or defeating Zubat since four Tackles are enough to defeat him. However Bite can flinch and Supersonic will probably confuse Onix. Onix holds a Lum berry (from a Green shard traded to the juggler in Violet city) to remove confusion and gain some time. If he goes down a poisoned Rattata will finish Zubat with Quick attack. Rattata can OHKO Zubat with the lowered defense and Guts but it's a damage range.
Bayleef is quite tanky and will heal himself and that's really bad for my underlevelled team. However I have a good strat against him. I went into the Ilex forest before defeating Team Rocket in Slowpoke well to catch a Paras. I'll sacrifice Ekans to lower Bayleef's attack before switching Paras in. We'll trade Poisonpowders and Paras will go down after Bayleef used all his Synthesis PP since Bayleef would rather use non-offensive moves when he faces a dual resistance from Razor leaf. Hoppip will finish what Paras started by tanking Bayleef until it goes down. Hoppip holds a Leppa berry to replenish my PP if I needed to but here I didn't need it and I'll use Tail whip when I can just in case. Rattata would be able to finish it with Quick attack if Hoppip goes down.
