Pokemon SoulSilver – Falkner (no exp)
0I'm quite happy with this attempt to be honest, even though I used two Oran berries. I got one from the first secret chamber in the Ruins of Alph and one from a wild Sentret as a held item (5% chance). They're at least easier to get after this fight !
Falkner got two Pokemon and both of them are a pain in the but for different reasons. Pidgey can't do anything to Gastly other than spam Sand-attack since he can't hit ghosts without using Struggle but Sand-attack is the main problem here. Onix will lower his defense with Screech three times before switching to my Rattata. This one got Guts and I poisoned him on a wild Ekans to give him a big power boost. With Pidgey's lowered defenses and Rattata's power it's a OHKO. I can still use Gastly to reset Onix's accuracy if I need to. Here Rattata didn't take a hit but he survives the hit with about 6 HP left.
Pidgeotto is the more straight forward problem because of his level, stats and Roost. He's got good stats this early in the game, his level is way higher than the Pokemon I can use and Roost lets him survive way too long. I send Ekans first to lower his attack once (and only once) with Intimidate. Pidgeotto's Gust is a damage range but Ekans goes down in one hit here.
Mareep is next and I need a little luck here because my goal here is to paralyze Pidgeotto with Static. Pidgeotto can use either Tackle or Gust and he'll use Tackle at -1 attack or higher. Mareep can tank three Tackles thanks to an Oran berry so Static's proc chance is between 65 and 76% (three or four Tackles respectively). Here I get the Static proc on the second hit so I'll save Mareep for later and send Gastly as a sacrifice.
Onix comes to lower Pidgeotto's defenses and maybe deal some damage before going down. He got crit but a second Oran berry helps him survive but the third Screech misses here. I begin my offense now : Mareep goes back into battle and uses Tackle until it goes down then Rattata comes back to finish the battle thanks to a lucky paralysis. My Totodile could still finish him off if he didn't get fully paralyzed but he wasn't needed this time.
I got the first badge and the next two big battles scare me...
