This is the introduction for Fushigi no Dungeon: Fuurai no Shiren 2 - Oni Shuurai! Shiren Jou! I ran through the dungeon to make the intro fit.

There's little doubt that you've heard about the first Shiren game if you're a big follower of the emulation and fan-translation community. But, if you're one of the really hardcore folks who bought or played this or the predecessor before it was translated with or without understanding of the Japanese language (either for your love of roguelikes, Chunsoft, Koichi Sugiyama, etc.), then you get extra brownie points.

History:

Fushigi no Dungeon: Fuurai no Shiren 2 is Shiren and Koppa's second adventure in the "Mysterious Dungeon" series (excluding the adaptation of his first adventure for the Game Boy) and is inspired by the first game ever in the Mysterious Dungeon series, Torneko no Daibōken: Fushigi no Dungeon (which starred Torneko/Taloon from Dragon Quest IV).

Introduction Summary:

Shiren and Koppa are traveling through a forest with some rocky, mountainous terrain, wandering to new places never seen. When they are close to a village, they meet a strange girl caught in a bear trap (who you will find out soon enough is a member of the main oni-ichizoku/鬼一族 or ogre family, named Kirara, just like Sango's nekomata from InuYasha). Koppa tells Shiren to hurry and help her out of the trap, which he does and they offer her a medicinal herb to help heal her wound. However, due to the willfulness of her and her tribe, she rejects the offering, becomes angry and storms off. She soon returns to the scene to thank Shiren and apologize, but he is already gone.

They run towards the clearing and reach the village where they greet the one they call aunt (or ma'am). She gets the two (who are starving at this point) food that they wolf down gladly. As the woman thanks them for waiting and wonders how bottomless their stomachs are, a warning bell rings. Before anyone has time to react, an angry horde of ogres bombard the village and destroy nearly everything in sight. Weak and confused, the residents within the village run to their temple to pray to the Daruma doll (達磨), sometimes refered to as Dharma dolls and called Daruma-sama in this game. Shiren and Koppa are foreigners, so they decide to wait outside so they don't disturb the ceremony and pass the time by playing a little game. Each time a person loses the game, they get paint drawn on the face. As they are playing, the Daruma is knocked over and bounces out of the temple. As Shiren's turn comes to paint Koppa, he is bumped out of the way by the Daruma and Shiren accidently fills in the right eye. In Japanese custom in this case, a Daruma's left eye is painted while thinking of a wish. The right eye is filled in later should the wish come true.

As the villagers wish for a way to solve their problem with the ogres and monsters, they quickly allude to them needing a castle made of stronger materials [城の材料] because their buildings cannot withstand enemy attacks. In addition, there is a place with parts and acessories that can help [城の部品]. Shiren fills in the eye by accident, but this means that their wish has come true in the form of Shiren the Wanderer. Baba-sama (the old woman who comes from the temple) is so shocked by the revelation of the legend that she faints, to which she is immediately carried off the scene. The villagers, now impressed by you, implore you to help them, to which you agree.

A villager then tells you what you must do and where you must begin your journey according to prophecy and asks if you would like the info repeated. He explains that there are parts and materials that you will find that can help you build your very own castle. After answering, he then wishes the two luck and Shiren and Koppa then set off on their second true adventure!

Enjoy.
