Geek Bravado Ramble: Dealing with the Internet Reality
The blog entry that this video is a companion for can be found at http://wp.me/p1RWaN-ao. I ramble about the latest flare up of discussion regarding hatred on the Internet and what can be done about it. There is no easy solution to this and for as bad a problem as it is, people have to realise it's never going to fully go away. However, I believe there are ways the effects can be mitigated and it starts with the social media companies who make billions off user generated content but throw up their hands and claim they can't do anything about abuse and hatred on their services. The solution is not enabling bullies by calling them out (as has been suggested by some), the solution (as much of one as there is available) is for the vectors of hatred to stop permitting it.
