While the Jumping Flash! series seemed to fall into obscurity relatively quickly in the West, the series was apparently popular enough in Japan to warrant a third entry all the way in 1999. Well technically, it had *two* more titles... but one of them was essentially just a collection of PocketStation-based mini-games.

Robbit mon Dieu is a very interesting game. Rather than continuing the stage-based format of its two predecessors, RmD opts for a mission-based structure, with a variety of different objectives. Defeat a set number of enemies, reach a specific goal location, protect a farmer's carrots from thieving moles, keep a downed plane's propellers moving until it can make an emergency landing... it's all good. I was originally worried that I'd have to rely entirely on context clues to do everything, but fortunately, I did manage to find a barebones guide that gives English-speaking players the basic gist of everything. Even more fortunately, I only really had to resort to using it a couple times. I wouldn't call this game "English-friendly" by any stretch of the imagination, but it is possible to play the game on instinct alone.

While the game has a total of 48 missions, players need only complete 30 to unlock the final two missions. Since most of the missions were shorter than the levels in the previous two games, I assumed I'd make this entire series a "hat trick" in terms of being one-stream wonders. I was wrong. The final stage represents a massive difficulty spike, at least when compared to the rest of the game, and by the time I reached it, it was honestly too late for me to devote any real time to mastering it. So, I guess I'll be going back to this on Thursday. Stay tuned.
