[This is an ongoing re-recording of the playthrough for Grim Fandango, which was one of my first original uploads and not completely satisfactory for me. The new re-recording features higher resolution, enhanced colors, and use of the HD upscale mod for in-game rendered graphics (unfortunately, not for cutscenes), as well as minor bits of action and dialog missed in the earlier playthrough, and, of course, complete timestamps for everything. Plus, it gives me a pretext for replaying this great game one more time!]
In the opening episode of Grim Fandango, we are introduced to Manuel (Manny) Calavera, an unfortunate soul deprived of rest and relief as he finds himself stuck for what seems like eternity working as a minor salesman (and, by extension, as one of the Grim Reapers) in the Department of Death, trying to work up a serious commission by selling luxury trips to the Ninth Underworld to potential clients. Unfortunately, Manny's clientele consists mostly of deadbeats, while all the wealthy souls somehow end up in the hands of his competitors, like the hyper-annoying and ultra-vain Domino Hurley. Nothing seems to help, not even after Manny teams up with a new promising driver (the imposing demon Glottis) who can get him to the Land of the Living in record time, so ultimately Manny has to resort to concocting a scheme that might somehow help transfer some of Domino's clients to his jurisdiction... even if it jeopardizes his own position at the office.
