1Game Information: Swelter is a story-driven modification for Half-Life 2, with events taking place a few years before Gordon Freeman's arrival in City 17. The summer sun had been heating the lands of Central Asia long before the Combine's appearance, but in recent days, the heat arises from another source. A series of armed riots in City 545 has spurred scattered resistance groups to unite towards the common goal of liberation from the aliens. However, only a special individual can resolve the contradictions among these would-be allies. A representative of the lambda resistance's secret agents, having travelled from afar, disembarks from a train at just the right moment...
You can expect classic shooter gameplay inspired by the original game, along with puzzles involving physical interaction with objects, vehicle control, and exploration of various locations. The average playthrough will take about two hours.
The visual aesthetics aim to please with a seldom-represented Central Asian environment featuring spacious steppes, rocky deserts, and a city where oriental and socialist architecture intertwine. You can immerse yourself in this visual feast while listening to the unique musical blend of the original soundtrack and local ethnic motifs.
The plot explores the ideological split among former allies. Each in-game faction has its own perspective on combating the invaders from another world, along with their unique strengths and weaknesses. The mod does not include any manifestos and steers clear of unnecessary vulgarity and cruelty.
Chapter Information: Returning to City 545 using a railway line that goes underground towards the city's main nexus structure, Roki explains to Mike that a major assault against the Combine in City 545 is needed to retrieve a key data packet that will be useful in the war against the Combine.
Working with Roki and a Black Squad group, Mike and Roki fight their way through the City 545 nexus encountering Combine Soldiers, Combine Elites, and heavy defenses that attempt to halt the large squad of Resistance fighters from journeying further into the nexus building.
Despite all this, however, the Black Squad rebel group is successfully able to transmit the data package away from the nexus before successfully managing to escape from the battered Combine complex.
After Mike collapses and reawakens several hours later, he is reminded of the mission by the contactor he first met on the train at the start of his journey to City 545 to eliminate Roki for the greater good of the Resistance.
Feeling conflicted, Mike meets up with Roki on a cargo plane before the duo then fights off Combine Drones and a Combine Assault Ship using the weapons on the plane before Roki informs Mike about discovering the plans for the destruction of the Black Squad rebel group.
After jumping out of the cargo plane, Mike then makes a key choice that ends up influencing key events within City 545. Despite the outcome, the Combine forces from City 545 are eventually beaten and the city becomes a significant Resistance stronghold with many refugees joining the Resistance or seeking a peaceful life in the desert region around City 545.
