Hideous Destructor | Bastardos: Episode One? | No Failure Runs | ?
5I don't know what to make of this map. It seems to be specifically from the download I got. Any other recordings of Bastardos I've seen doesn't include this map. The architecture reminds me of the second map in Fistful of Doom, but it's been modified somewhat. Some of the textures and props use the ones from Bastardos, all of the enemies here are replaced to spectres, there's a whole back section with the map exit being a cross, and there's zero weapons or ammo to be found.
That's right, if you came in this map unprepared or do something unwise and pistol start it, you'll eventually be stuck fighting a lot of these invisible guys with your bare hands. In HDest, they're turned to spectre babuins, ninja pirates, and shellshades, quite a dangerous lot to be fighting unarmed.
Had the misfortune of finding out the hard way the first time and had to redo the NFR from the previous map so I can hoard all the ammo I could find. It was enough, thankfully. Barely made it at the last minute thanks to the shellshade hiding in the darkness just chipping away at my armor. Another shotgun shot would've ended a perfectly good run if I didn't throw that DERP.
Still though, this entire map is a conundrum. I have to wonder if the porter is the one that did it. It had occurred to me that the download I'm using is technically a modified version of Bastardos, which seems to be primarily made for EDGE, but I didn't know full extent of the modifications. Might also explain the borked secrets in the other maps.
