Hisoutensoku: Border Shock & Timer Mod Showcase
39It's another Mod Showcase; this time around it's a mod that actually modifies how the game works and despite the "simplicity" of it, it's also an extremely interesting addition to the game that makes it bloom with potential. A lot of Skills that felt weak now get new life, spells that seemed hard to utilize are now a lot easier to implement in your gameplan and offense that may have felt not strong enough is now extremely scary and on top of all of this, the game gets pushed to the extreme, becoming a lot more intense.
It's definitely one of my favorite "alternative takes" on Soku's core gameplay and I may run a tournament or two with it, just to see it played more.
This aside, here some things I didn't manage to point out in the video:
1) The Timer Mod actually will change the BGM once the timer gets to 0. It's pretty cool (though most people play with the default music turned off sadly)
2) You can cancel almost every move into a B.S. except pre-jump frames or any frame where you can't input an attack; this is due to the BS system working by cancelling "attacks", so in a situation where you can't input an attack (usually a Melee Attack) then you can't also B.S.
3) Sunshower and Sunny but more so Sunny become an absolute mess of game design as you can literally B.Ss throughout the entirety of the Sunny Weather's Timer. Less but somewhat similar in Sunshower. It's pretty fun.
4) Reversals are both extremely strong and extremely irrelevant as both players can B.S. the move away. Reversals are still useful but feel really "null".
