How to Assemble PS5 controller after Fixing Buttons or Stick Drift
Step-by-Step Reassembly Guide for DualSense Controller
1. Prepare Components
Check Parts: Ensure all components (analog sticks, buttons, D-pad, touchpad, battery, ribbon cables, rumble motors, motherboard, midframe, adaptive trigger assemblies, and lightbar) are clean and functional.
Inspect Repairs: Confirm stick drift or button issues are fixed (e.g., cleaned or replaced joysticks, new button membranes).
Organize Screws: Keep the four rear screws (Phillips, ~6mm) and any smaller internal screws separate.
2. Reinstall the Motherboard and Midframe
Place the Motherboard:
Align the motherboard in the front shell (where buttons and sticks are). Ensure analog sticks, button contacts, and the touchpad slot align properly.
Reconnect ribbon cables if disconnected:
Touchpad Ribbon: Lift the black flap on the motherboard’s connector (use a spudger), insert the ribbon flat (contacts down), and lock the flap.
Other Ribbons (e.g., lightbar or triggers): Reconnect similarly, ensuring no twisting or pinching.
Ensure the microphone and speaker (if removed) are seated and connected.
Secure the Midframe:
Place the black plastic midframe over the motherboard, aligning screw holes, trigger slots, and analog sticks (sticks should move freely).
If rumble motors were removed, reattach them to their midframe slots and reconnect their small connectors to the motherboard (match colors or positions).
Secure with any small internal screws (some models have 1-2; don’t overtighten).
3. Reconnect the Battery
Position the Battery:
Place the battery in its compartment (usually in the midframe or back shell).
Reconnect the battery’s ribbon cable to the motherboard:
Lift the connector flap, insert the ribbon (contacts down), and lock the flap gently.
Ensure the cable lies flat without twisting.
Secure the battery with its clip or adhesive (if applicable).
4. Reassemble Buttons and Adaptive Triggers
Install Buttons:
Place the D-pad, face buttons (triangle, circle, square, cross), and Share/Create + Options buttons into their slots in the front shell.
Ensure the rubber membranes beneath are aligned (pegs in holes) for proper button contact.
If the touchpad was removed, ensure it’s seated and its ribbon is connected (see Step 2).
Reinstall Adaptive Triggers (L1/L2, R1/R2):
Reattach the L2/R2 trigger assemblies (springs and motors) to their slots in the midframe or back shell. Ensure the adaptive trigger gears are aligned.
Reconnect any trigger ribbon cables to the motherboard (lift flap, insert, lock).
Place L2/R2 triggers over their assemblies, aligning hinges with pivot points.
Snap L1/R1 buttons over the triggers, ensuring they click into place.
Test trigger movement manually; they should feel springy with adaptive resistance.
