How to Increase UMA Frame Buffer Size on Steam Deck for Windows 11 (FPS INCREASE)
The UMA (Unified Memory Architecture) Frame Buffer Size on the Steam Deck refers to the amount of system RAM allocated to the integrated GPU (iGPU). Increasing the UMA Frame Buffer Size can potentially improve performance in certain games by allocating more memory to the GPU. However, this also reduces the amount of RAM available for the operating system and other applications.
Steps to Increase UMA Frame Buffer Size on Steam Deck:
Access the BIOS:
Power off your Steam Deck completely.
Power it on, and as soon as you see the Steam logo, press the Volume Up button or F2 (on an external keyboard) to enter the BIOS.
Navigate to Advanced Settings:
In the BIOS, use the D-pad or an external keyboard to navigate to the Advanced or Chipset Configuration menu. This menu may have different names depending on the BIOS version.
Find UMA Frame Buffer Size:
Look for an option labeled UMA Frame Buffer Size or Integrated Graphics Configuration under the Advanced settings. This option allows you to adjust the amount of system RAM allocated to the iGPU.
Increase the Frame Buffer Size:
Select the UMA Frame Buffer Size option and choose a higher value. Common values include 512MB, 1GB, 2GB, and sometimes higher.
Be cautious with increasing the size too much, as it directly reduces the available RAM for Windows and other tasks.
Save and Exit:
After selecting the desired frame buffer size, navigate to the Exit or Save & Exit tab in the BIOS.
Select Save Changes and Exit to apply the changes.
Restart and Test:
Once you restart your Steam Deck, Windows 11 will recognize the new frame buffer size. Test your games to see if there's any improvement in performance.
