How to Connect Xbox to Xbox App on Phone (Xbox One, Xbox Series X & S)
Connecting your Xbox to the Xbox app on your phone lets you manage your console, chat, or use features like Remote Play. Here’s how to do it step-by-step for Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One:
First, set up your Xbox. Turn it on by pressing the power button on the console or using a controller. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide, go to Profile & System, then Settings, then Devices & Connections, and select Remote Features. Check the box next to Enable Remote Features—this allows the app to communicate with your console. Ensure your Xbox is connected to the internet—go to Settings, then Network, then Network Settings, and connect to Wi-Fi or use an Ethernet cable if it’s not already set up.
Next, grab your phone—Android 6.0 or later, or iOS 13 or later works. Download the Xbox app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store if you don’t have it. Open the app and sign in with the same Microsoft account you use on your Xbox—if you’re not sure, check your account under Settings, then Account on the console. Once signed in, tap the Library tab at the bottom (it looks like three stacked game cases), then select Consoles at the top. If your Xbox is on and on the same Wi-Fi network as your phone, it should appear automatically—tap its name (like “Xbox Series X” or a custom name you set) to connect.
If it doesn’t show up, tap Set Up a Console, then Add an Existing Console, and follow the prompts to link it manually by entering a code displayed on your Xbox screen (go to Settings, then Devices & Connections, then Remote Features to find it).
To confirm it’s connected, tap the console’s name in the app, and you’ll see options like Remote Play on This Device or Console Info. Test it by sending a notification—tap the bell icon in the app’s top right, send a test message, and see if it pops up on your Xbox screen. Your phone and Xbox need to be on the same Wi-Fi network for the initial connection, but once linked, some features (like Remote Play) work over mobile data if your home network allows it.
If it’s not connecting, ensure both devices are online—check your Xbox’s network status in Settings, then Network, and your phone’s Wi-Fi or data signal. Restart the app by closing it fully and reopening it, and reboot your Xbox by holding the Xbox button, selecting Restart Console. Make sure the app and console are updated—check for app updates in your phone’s store, and console updates in Settings, then System, then Updates. Once connected, you can use the app to control your Xbox, download games remotely, or stream gameplay. That’s it—you’re linked up.
