How to do pull ups and increase grip level fast in MGS2
To do a pull up in Metal Gear Solid 2, press the action button near a railing then press the left and right back shoulder buttons together.
As you hang, you must be mindful of your grip strength. This starts at level 1, and can be increased with more pull ups. Performing 100 pull ups will increase your grip level by one, up to a max of grip level 3 (no, there is no grip level 4). Reaching grip level 3 is also a requirement for the 'Steel Grip' Trophy / Achievement in the remaster.
The fastest way to increase grip level in MGS2 is dropping and catching the railing below, which is worth 10 pull ups each time. To do this, press the action button while hanging, then press it again as you reach the railing below. The timing is tricky, but doing this 10 times versus 100 pull ups for a single level makes the effort worthwhile!
Note there are only certain areas of the game you can find a railing above another - in the Tanker this is the Engine Room, and in Big Shell, we recommend Strut D.
