How to Edit the Hosts File in Mac OS X
Editing the hosts file in OS X is a simple process that can be accomplished rather quickly through the Terminal app on Mac.The video demonstrates how to modify /private/etc/hosts on a Mac in OS X El Capitan, Yosemite, OS X Mavericks, OS X Mountain Lion, and OS X Lion, but the technique can be applied to virtually any other unix-based OS by editing /etc/hosts instead.
KEY POINTS: You need an admin password to edit the hosts file. To "Save" the modified hosts file in nano hit CONTROL+O (o as in os x) after you make changes, and to "Quit" out of nano hit CONTROL+X when you are finished.
