How to Fix Microphone not working on Windows 11 or 10 PC sound settings
If your microphone is not working on Windows 11 or 10, try these fixes:
1. Check the Basics
Ensure the mic is not muted – Some microphones have a physical mute button.
Try another port or device – If using a wired mic, switch USB or audio ports.
Restart your PC – A simple reboot can fix minor issues.
2. Check Microphone Settings
Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray and select Sound settings (Windows 11) or Open Sound settings (Windows 10).
Under Input, select the correct microphone from the list.
Speak into the mic—if the Test your microphone bar moves, it's working.
3. Set Microphone as Default
Press Win + R, type mmsys.cpl, and press Enter.
Go to the Recording tab.
Right-click your microphone and select Set as Default Device.
Click Apply, then OK.
4. Allow Microphone Access
Press Win + I to open Settings.
Go to Privacy & security - Microphone.
Ensure Microphone access is turned on for apps.
5. Update or Reinstall Audio Drivers
Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
Expand Sound, video, and game controllers.
Right-click your audio device and select Update driver- Search automatically.
If that doesn’t work, right-click the mic under Audio inputs and outputs and select Uninstall device, then restart your PC.
