How to Get Custom Background & Theme on PS5 (Welcome Screen)
15The PS5 does not support custom themes or backgrounds for the main home screen, unlike the PS4. The home screen uses dynamic backgrounds that change based on the highlighted game or app, and this cannot be altered. However, you can customize your profile background and Welcome Hub background. Here’s how:
Customize Profile Background
Go to the PS5 home screen and select your avatar in the top-right corner.
Choose Profile, then select the pen icon to edit.
Select Cover Image, Change Image.
Choose a screenshot from your Media Gallery or upload an image via the PS App:
Via PS App: Send an image to a friend or yourself in a PS App chat. On the PS5, open the chat, view the image, take a screenshot (hold Create button), and crop/edit it in the Media Gallery.
Via Browser Workaround: Send a message with a Google.com link to yourself. Open the link in the PS5 browser, search for an image, take a screenshot (hold Create button), and crop/edit it.
Select the edited image as your profile background and save.
Customize Welcome Hub Background
Highlight the Welcome Hub icon on the home screen (first icon by default).
Press down on the left joystick or d-pad to open the hub.
Scroll down and press Triangle to open Utilities.
Select Change Background.
Choose from pre-created backgrounds or select an image from your Media Gallery (e.g., a game screenshot).
Save changes.
Limited-Time PS5 Themes
Sony occasionally offers special themes, like the PlayStation 30th Anniversary themes (PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 styles), available for a limited time. Check the PS Store or system updates for availability. These apply to the Welcome Hub or specific UI elements, not the main home screen.
