How to Turn Off Screen Reader & Talking Voice on Roku Device (Easy Method)
To turn off the screen reader and talking voice on a Roku device, which is part of the Audio Guide accessibility feature, follow these steps:
Using the Remote:
Press the asterisk button, also called the star button, on your Roku remote four times quickly. This acts as a shortcut to toggle the Audio Guide on or off.
Listen for the voice to stop, indicating it’s disabled. If it doesn’t work, try pressing the button four times again, ensuring you do it in rapid succession.
Via Settings Menu:
Navigate to the Roku home screen using your remote.
Scroll to Settings and select it by pressing OK.
Move to Accessibility and press OK.
Select Audio Guide and press OK.
Choose Off to disable the feature, then press OK to confirm.
Exit the menu by pressing the Home button.
If the Remote Isn’t Working:
Download the Roku mobile app on your smartphone from the App Store or Google Play.
Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as your Roku device.
Open the app, select your Roku device, and use the remote feature.
Follow the Settings steps above: Go to Settings, Accessibility, Audio Guide, and turn it Off.
Additional Checks:
If the voice persists, ensure you’re adjusting the correct setting—some apps like Netflix have their own audio descriptions. Check app-specific settings if needed.
Restart your Roku by unplugging it for 10 seconds, then plugging it back in, to ensure the change takes effect.
