How to Hard Reset Android Phone if Forgot Password (Best Method)
To hard reset an Android phone when you've forgotten the password, follow these steps. Note that a hard reset will erase all data on the device, so use this as a last resort after attempting other unlock methods (like Google account recovery or Find My Device).
General Steps for Most Android Devices
Power Off the Device:
Press and hold the power button to turn off the phone. If you can't unlock it, wait for the battery to drain or try holding the power button for 20-30 seconds (some devices may require power + volume down together).
Enter Recovery Mode:
With the phone off, press and hold the Power button and Volume Down button together (or Volume Up on some devices) until the device vibrates or shows a logo.
Release the buttons when the recovery mode screen appears. (Button combinations vary by manufacturer; see below for specifics.)
Navigate Recovery Mode:
Use the volume buttons to navigate the menu and the power button to select options.
Select Wipe data/factory reset. (On some devices, you may need to select "Factory data reset" or similar.)
Confirm Reset:
Confirm the action (usually by selecting "Yes" or "Delete all user data").
The device will reset, erasing all data, including the lock screen password.
Reboot:
After the reset, select Reboot system now. The phone will restart, and you can set it up as a new device.
